« back to artists

Linda Ronstadt Linda Marie Ronstadt (born July 15, 1946 in Tucson, Arizona) is an American popular vocalist who as earned multiple Grammy Awards, numerous multi-platinum albums, an Emmy Award, and a Tony Award nomination. She has recorded over 30 studio albums and has made guest appearances on over 100 other albums.

A singer-songwriter and record producer, she is better known as a definitive interpreter of songs. Starting at the forefront of the folk rock and country rock genres which defined post-sixties rock music, and with the unprecedented hit-making success in the 1970s with chart-topping albums such as: Heart Like A Wheel, Simple Dreams, and Living In The USA, accompanied by successful tours, Ronstadt became the leading female vocalist of the rock era, her image was equally as famous as her music, landing six times on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, Newsweek, and on the coveted cover of Time magazine. Ronstadt remained one of the best-selling vocalists throughout the 1980s with multi-platinum selling albums such as: Canciones de Mi Padre and Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind. Ronstadt has continued her success and has not stopped performing or making music to critical acclaim with albums such as: Winter Light and Adieu False Heart. Ronstadt, who has reportedly sold in excess of 87 million records worldwide, opened many doors for women in rock-n-roll and music in general by being out in front. Ronstadt is one of the top female vocalists in U.S. history and part of the list of best-selling music artists.

Linda Ronstat is an amazing vocalist. Everytime my director assigns me a song to work on, I take out all of my Linda Ronstat CD's and listen. I also love the fact that she doesn't speak much spanish, because I am in the same position. Dont get me wrong, I'm true to my roots. I just prefer speaking english,so at times it is a bit difficult. Whenever I am challenged by a song, I just think of her. She trully inspires me to continue singing.

In 1987 I went to the 1st Annual Mariachi Workshop held at Premont HS in Texas and I heard the music of Linda Ronstadt. I fell in love with mariachi music by listening to her sing. Then I begin to hear other artists and the rest is history. Her phrasing and her musicality are fantastic for someone who cannot speak spanish...
